SON raises committee on standards for electricity meters

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has set up a committee to ensure that all electricity meters imported or assembled in Nigeria meet the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission and the International Organisation for Standardisation, The Punch reports.

The Director-General, SON, Mr. Osita Aboloma, disclosed this in Lagos on Thursday during the meeting of the technical committee on electrical metering standards. Aboloma, who was represented at the meeting by the Head, Ports and Borders Operations, SON, Albert Wilberforce, said the meeting was informed by the need to make sure that electricity meters met the needs and aspirations of Nigerian consumers and electricity service providers.

The Group Head, Electrical and Electronics Department of SON, Mr. Richard Adewumi, said the committee, made up of consumers, service providers and experts in the electrical sector, would deliberate on the IEC document and look at areas that could be adapted to suit the Nigerian environment.
