The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company says it plans to generate electricity from an alternative power source other than the national grid, P.M. News reports.
This was contained in a statement by Mr Idris Abdullahi, a spokesman of the company, on Wednesday in Kaduna. The statement said that the Company’s Head of Compliance, Malam Lawal Lawal, gave the indication during a Customer Consultative Forum in Kaduna. According to Lawal, the move is necessitated by the current generation capacity of Generation Companies in Nigeria (GENCOs), which he said is not enough.
He added that as part of efforts to augment the allocation the company receives from the national grid, it has begun talks with other companies for solar and wind sources. Lawal also said the company had invested much on the procurement of metres which he said had passed a rigorous process before they were certified as fit for installation.
